About the Natural Helpers Program
The Natural Helpers Program is a school-based mental health initiative aimed at strengthening peer support systems, promoting early identification of psychosocial needs, and building resilience among learners.
The program introduces structured peer-led psychosocial support to complement school guidance systems and improve student wellbeing outcomes.
Role Overview
CBT Kenya is seeking a passionate and skilled Social Worker to provide psychosocial support to learners and strengthen school mental health systems through the Natural Helpers model. This role combines counseling, prevention, training, and systems strengthening within school environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate Natural Helpers peer support groups;
- Supervise Natural Helpers activities in schools;
- Implement peer support programs;
- Monitor peer support effectiveness;
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and school leadership;
- Engage parents and caregivers;
- Identify and train student peer supporters;
- Support school collaboration and referral systems;
Psychosocial Support & Counseling
- Conduct psychosocial assessments for at-risk learners;
- Provide individual and group counseling;
- Deliver crisis intervention (distress, abuse, self-harm risk);
- Develop life skills and resilience sessions;
- Develop referral pathways to mental health and child protection services.
Capacity Building
- Train teachers on Psychological First Aid (PFA);
- Support mental health awareness in schools;
- Strengthen whole-school psychosocial systems.
Monitoring & Reporting
- Maintain confidential case documentation;
- Track program indicators and outcomes;
- Prepare monthly and quarterly reports.

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work;
- Training in Mental Health & Psychosocial Support (MHPSS);
- Registration with a relevant professional body;
- 3–5 years’ experience in mental health or school-based programs.
